Basant Panchami, a vibrant festival cherished in our Varanasi home, was a splash of yellow, thanks to my mom’s strict decree on attire. Turmeric found its way not only into our dresses but also into our meals, a golden hue enveloping the day.

Goddess Saraswati, the epitome of knowledge, music and art commanded our reverence as we bowed before her, seeking blessings for our academic endeavors. My mom’s earnest plea of “Haath jodo” amused us, but we complied, honoring her heartfelt devotion.

At BHU, Basant Panchami was more than just a festival; it was a grand celebration marking the Founder’s day. The campus adorned itself with vibrant marigolds, paying homage to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya’s legacy. Amidst the festivities, I couldn’t help but ponder the weight of millions of prayers directed towards Goddess Saraswati for academic success.

Embedded in such fervent traditions, we imbibed the essence of Basant Panchami – the rituals, the passion, and the devotion. Though seemingly insignificant to some, for us, it’s a treasure trove of warm, vivid, and golden memories.

Here’s wishing everyone a Happy Basant Panchami! May the blessings of Goddess Saraswati always illuminate your path with knowledge and wisdom.
